Philips 55POS9002 thermal throttling

by Zipdox

When I play a high bitrate 4K HDR HEVC movie, the TV overheats after ~50 minutes and thermal throttles, thus stalling playback. Would it be possible to install a fan inside the TV, or perhaps stick it on the outside, to improve cooling?

You certainly could get one of those USB powered fans and put it either near the bottom intakes (if it has it) or the top passive exhaust vents in order to either try to push or pull air. Secondarily you could try to point it at the section on the back of the device where the mainboard is, but chances are this may be less successful likely due to gap between the shell and the board.

If this doesn't help, then you are out some time and maybe $20.

Alternatively, if you are okay with taking the back off the TV, you can possibly put new thermal tape/putty or repaste the heatsinks on the mainboard... or add some if there are none. This can increase the lifespan of the device and likely increase the cooling efficiency. However, only take this route if you are comfortable disassembling your device.
