Best Non-Nvidia Android TV Capable of Kodi Add-ons and native Netflix 4K unlock?

by nomizzz

I’m looking for an Android TV box that’s slightly more affordable than the Nvidia Shield that’s also capable of unlocking official native Netflix 4K (DRM), but also highly customizable with respect to side-loading the greatest variety of third-party applications.

I’m especially interested in native NordVPN support so I was looking into the Amazon Fire Cube, but it seems like that the FireOS doesn’t always play well with Google Play Store APKs. I’ve experienced this problem on my Kindle Fire, and would like to avoid it on my smart TV box.

According to most review sites, most of the other manufacturers that focus on compatibility and customizability aren’t capable of unlocking native Netflix due to licensing or political decisions. Any exceptions to this or particularly easy to jailbreak Android TVs?

I have a mibox but I can't recommend it. It did work for a year really well. Just buy the shield, Ive had mine for 6 years and it's still seeing 6 hours a day of 4k with no signs 9f slowing

Why not the Chromecast with google TV?

I bought one recently, so far seems excellent. You can also plug a USBC hub into them for ethernet or external storage.

What 4k tv do you have that doesn't have Netflix built in?

Fire TV Stick 4K is not AndroidTV but can do all or most of what you are looking for. I've been able to sideload various player apps on there, and also most streaming services have apps on the Fire platform.

Much cheaper than a Shield, too.

TheMecool KM2 does Netflix at 4k and can handle the full playstore and all apks.

Its also less than half the price of a Shield

Fire Cube 2nd gen off Ebay for like $70 is the best bang to performance ratio if you're on the cusp of being a 'power' user. Look at benchmarks and it can hang in the ring with Nvidia shields [multi-core benchmark of 4024 vs a shield which is 4126].

you've highlighted the cons though

- not an android box, even if you can sideload most things
- doesn't have google play services, if you need that
- no usb port (you have to spend $20 to get an OTG cable and hub for USB slots)

I couldn't be happier with mine, even with the cons, because I bought it second hand. I also have nordvpn on mine and VPN safety dot installed so I can see when the vpn is active at all times.

BuzzTV XRS 4900 Android TV Box if you have the money, but I would just buy a Shield. X96 Max+ Supercharged Android TV Box , or the H96 Max Supercharged Android TV Box.
