Playing .mkv 4k movies through old USB stick on Sony X85J

by Xiimbox

I've got my Android TV for two days and I'm pretty happy with it. My only issue is that I've tried to play three different movies through my old 30gb USB stick and, while one of them worked just fine, the other two where unwatchable. The screen was covered with green big pixels like a huge chess board. It didn't matter the app I used (VLC, Kodi, Media Player, you name it). Any ideas of what is going on?

Maybe file bitrate too big and your box can not handle it

Can you play those same files from the USB on another device? Is the problem only when plugging it into the TV?

My first thought was depending on the bitrate of the files, it may be struggling to play from the drive if the drive isn't fast enough (you mentioned "old").
If it can play from USB on another device, that would rule that out or confirm it.

Also compare the file that plays with the other two, I'm assuming they're all .mkv? But two are a pixelated mess and one plays fine right?
