Xbox Game Pass app now has Android TV icon. Not available on Play Store yet.

The current version of Xbox Game Pass for Android now has an Android TV icon, so can be added to the Home screen without any tricks. (There is also a striking Xbox splash screen at launch, I presume to indicate xCloud now running on Series X hardware.)

Surprisingly, the app is not yet available for Android TV via Play Store despite this, so still needs sideloading or installation from a third-party app store like Aptoide; hopefully it will be on Play Store soon.

There is also one regression I noticed. The DPAD_SELECT button no longer works within the app. If your remote (incorrectly) generates ENTER for the "Select"/"Center" button on your remote you won't notice, but for those of us with remotes that generate the correct DPAD_SELECT this means we'll have to use the game controller immediately upon launching the app.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that there is no easy way to get rid of the "New update: Tap here to know what's new with this update" popup without using a touchscreen or mouse. Reading and clearing all new notifications doesn't do it.

Fwiw, icon showed up a couple months back https://9to5google.com/2021/07/29/xbox-game-pass-android-tv-homescreen/

But the D-Pad bit might be new

It's not surprising, Google did the same with Stadia, the app had Android TV launcher icon almost a year before releasing on Play Store. Although playing was possible, the interface still needed some tweaks and fixes for navigation with gamepad/remote only.

By the way, did the sound stutter in games like Dirt 5 improve in the Chromecast with Google TV?

I've been running it for a month or so now and my main gripe is despite being on ethernet and a 70mb connection i get intermitant 'slow network' issues every time i play

BUT its still fab to have a second Xbox for casual gameing when the kids are living on the main box.

oh i use the Aurora Store to install and update
