Dog afraid of Google Tv?

by lucyjtree

Okay, hear me out. We just switched out our old chromecast for the new ones with GTV.

Our dog suddenly can’t stand being in the living room, or our bedroom (where we also have one).

She is fine until we turn on the tv, and is terrified of the remote. Anyone else notice this? I’m assuming there’s a high frequency, but I just want to see if anyone else has noticed this!

Your remote communicates via Bluetooth, which operates at 2400 to 2483.5 MHz. What's more, this is electromagnetic radiation in the radio frequencies range, not sound at all. You might want to look up the differences between light and sound waves. They're entirely different physical phenomena.

I assure you, your dog is not "hearing" Bluetooth. The dog may be associating the TV being on (or simply your holding the remote) with some experience it wants to avoid, like being yelled at or something.

Unplug it from power and take the batteries out of the remote, but leave it in the room, and see if the dog does anything different. I'm guessing the dog won't act any different, but there's a chance there's some coil whine that the dog is picking up on, maybe from the power supply.

Is your dog under warranty?

If your doggo is anything like mine, some treats can get help her get over her fear.

There may be a real reason for your dog beahaviour.

Chromecast has a guest mode that works with ultrasound frequencies for pin sharing and pairing. Maybe something similar is present on new models as well

if you think it's some high frequency, you can test for it

This is the app i'm using when i hunt down annoying noises (usually power supplies) in the house.
