Make sure the app is updated on the TV
Op did u figure it out? If not I got a solution that worked for me. You gotta side load Gboard latest version onto your tv. U can download it from APKMirror then upload to your tv using send files to tv
Also if your remote services won't update you can use this
I was just reading this thread and saw the comment about updating the app in google tv and I went to use android TV remote and it was having trouble connecting. Then I went back to the Google tv remote and it connected for the first time ever. I did nothing to anything lol
If google TV app is available in your region, you should've got the Android TV remote service 5.0 update.
