New Onn 4K box - can’t install Prime Video app because it’s allegedly incompatible

by bandley3

I just bought one of those $30 Onn Android TV boxes to replace the CCwGTV that I’m sending to my parents to replace their aged Apple TV 3G. Everything seemed to be going fine, more or less, until I tried to install the Prime Video app. I couldn’t find it in the Google Play store so I did a voice search for it and found it that way. The problem is that it says that it’s incompatible with my device. Huh? I did all of the system updates on the box when I first plugged it in and it’s running some version of 10, not 10.5 (which I understand is the current release of the OS).

I did a search online and the best advice that I could find was to clear the two caches for the Play Store; I did that but it didn’t make a difference. How on Earth do I install the app? Can I sideload it via a USB stick, OTG through the USB micro port? Is there something else I need to do?

It looks like the latest Prime update on the Play Store is now compatible again.

I have the same issue, but I bought my Onn box maybe 3 months ago, Prime Video was available and I installed it and it worked fine.

About a month ago they auto updated the app, and I couldn't get great resolution, it kept crashing etc. I had to factory reset the box for unrelated issues, and that's when I noticed the prime app was gone from the play store.

Hope that clears up things, I'm going to assume the app maybe was taken down for those issues?

My work around was to put Prime on my phone and Chromecast it to the device.

I see what you mean. I don't know what's going own with the Play Store and this app,but it can be sidelaoded using you favorite method. You can grab the latest version here. I just used it to update my version from 5.6.1 to 5.6.3. I was not offered that update from the Play Store. https://apkpure.com/prime-video-android-tv/com.amazon.amazonvideo.livingroom

You can sideload the APK file with a File Manager, or... if you have the direct link, use Downloader to download and install the APK.

I own one and had no issues installing it. Make sure you have the latest updates. Might also be restricted outside the US.

I had this issue with a MI box and I just installed the apk instead. Works fine.

Does the Amazon App Store work on this device? You might be able to get it from there.

Same here after a factory reset due volume issues. I'm out of US but before the factory reset i had it on play store and working fine

Just install it through aptoide tv

That’s fine. You pay £80/year for Prime and then have to buy most movies on it anyway. Get Netflix instead.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot this is Reddit and everything needs to be spelled out as though we’re in special needs class.

Yes, I know most people who have Prime Video use it because they're already Prime customers. I was being facetious.

Jesus fucking Christ. 🤦
