Typically these things break a bunch of stuff so Netflix or some random things like Bluetooth don't work anymore. But you're running the latest and can get rid of a few apps you don't want.

It's great if you want to turn your device into a hobby and play around with it. Bless the devs and community for keeping the spirit of foss alive.

This strikes me as one of those... we did it because we could not because there was a good reason or need.

What would be an advantage/benefit to doing this?

While this is kinda pointless on a Chromecast device. Installing lineage os saved my phone from being recycled for a new phone. It didn't come with support for volte. Meaning my att service got cut off. Using lineage os enabled support for a perfectly fine phone.

Some one should document this on YouTube, as Google has still yet to release android tv 11 or even android tv 12 to the chromecast, but to other streaming devices like the adt 3, if you want your chromecast with android 11 (which I think is also pointless other than for support or what ever new features google may have put into the OS), just install it on your COMPATIBLE CHROKECAST EITH AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER (WHICH MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE AND EVEN IF IT IS, IT IS PROBABLYVERY HARD) then install the Google tv launcher or use the default leanback launcher
