Update TCL C715 from V625?

Hi, my 4K TCL tv is basically brand new, had it for a few weeks. I've noticed the dashboard is quite slow. I've checked if theres an update but there isn't unless i do it manually via USB. I have also downloaded all my apps so i don't want to have to redownload them if i do update.

I'm currently on V625. Which is version 9. Which version should i be updating to? Any downsides to updating the software?? Thank you.

There are two formats of updates:

  • .Zip: it is installed from the settings screen, keeps your apps and data.
  • .Img: it is installed from a recovery like system, automatically performs a factory reset.

The downsides is that some updates bring bugs, so you have to jump between firmwares.

The firmware v640 works fine on p8m and p715. You will have to test with your tv.

You can find new updates in XDA. Google: XDA TCL p8m firmware and it will appear as the first result or check my comments history.
