Philips Ambilight "Ethernet is not connected"

by Kirby_Mr_54

Have a weird problem with our Philips Ambilight Smart TV.

With growing regularity it informs us the Ethernet is not connected. Checking the IP address it shows as having an internal address.of 173.xxx.xxx.xxx rather than the home network 192.168.0.xxx

We have cable internet, and have run an ethernet cable from the modem/router into a 10/100 switch. Then a cable from the switch to the TV, we also have a PS connected via the same Switch. When the "ethernet isn't connected" message shows up the PS is connected just fine. I have switched the cables, between devices and switched out for new ones.

I have factory reset the SmartTV but the problem returns withing 24-48 hours.

Any ideas?

some other reddit user said to de-activate the wifi. kind of a longshot but never know maybe it's picking up some random wifi and for some stupid reason tries to use that.

if nothing else did you try to manually set ip settings? make sure you set the default gateway as your router ip.

That 173 address is assigned internally. You need to use process of elimination to troubleshoot. Use a different Ethernet cable and connect directly to the router. If the problem goes away you have narrowed it down to the cable or switch. If still there then probably the TV, although it could be the router DHCP server, which could be isolated by configuring a static IP in the TV.

I had the same problem. Though I don't think I checked the IP address.

Have you checked the system clock?

Sometimes (especially after power cuts and firmware updates) the system clock of the TV can be corrupted. It may be set to a 20 years ago or something like that. On such cases, your TV will not connect to the internet. Manually set it to todays date and give it a go.

Same cable that connected router to switch that other devices are running OK from. 2 week old 5m Cat6

So after, replacing switch, new cables, new router from ISP ... The problem persists - HOWEVER have narrowed it down to the AndroidTV OS and connecting to a VPN, and a little googlefu tells me I'm not the only one... Not come across a solution yet but still looking.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I have this too and it’s really fucking annoying. The only thing that helps is unplugging the tv and plugging it back in.

Any solutions? I have the same problem. The tv is connected with an Ethernet cable but can’t find the network. All other devices are on the network without a problem. I have tried all of the above but it still happens, especially when I try to use my VPN app (ProtonVPN). It happened sporadically and then more and more often, to the point that I now can’t use the VPN anymore. I have to unplug the TV to get it going again. I specifically bought an Android TV so that I could easily use a VPN. This is extremely frustrating. Any solutions out there!?!

Same issue, when i plug in the Ethernet cable the tv keeps telling me to plug in the cable turn on the router when I try to connect. Both are fine, the same cable and port work on any other device, did someone find a solution?

I can connect the tv the WiFi but that is really unreliable on the tv as well
