The reason why I originally purchased the Nvidia Shield was because it was at the top of all of the best tv box lists. I have the new Google with Chromecast, it's cool but not enough storage Not an Apple guy, and I have Rokus around the house, they're fine but limited too. My Shield has been crap, the remote freezes, videos don't load, before I replace it, I'd like to know if there something better?

Just for reference, HBO Now is a pain, takes forever to load of at all The volume controls stop intermittently I am on Ethernet. It does have the latest firmware ... In case anyone else has similar experiences. I will try the factory reset, which will take a while, cause I'll have to re install all of the apps and log in info. Appreciate all the feedback. But if you could purchase an alternative device, what you y'all suggest?
When buying a device is best to first decide what functions & features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
Shield is the current best for AndroidTV devices, but if the question was for the current best "Streaming Media Player" then some will argue that the new Apple 4K TV box is the best.
Seems like from reading your comments the feature that matters the most to you is "Apps that just work!" From what I seen and read the new Apple 4K TV box seems to fit that requirement more.
You also said you are already a Roku user, so upgrading to the recently released 2020 Ultra might be what you need. Roku excels at software, but the company is always getting in spats with streaming services, and the Roku hardware(cpu/ram) is generally unpowered. But the new Ultra did make a positive step-up in hardware performance compared to all the other past Roku devices so it is worth considering.
Maybe the HBO Max AndroidTV app will get fixed, but do you have the patience to wait is the question.
The formuler GTV is pretty cool . I am totally biased yes. But if you're into IPTV and stuff like that it's pretty dope.

I’m no longer feeling my Shield 2019 either. A slow clunky crap interface. Plex is problematic and I just don’t enjoy the experience anymore too
I don't know where you could go to find better since yours appears to defective somehow. Nothing you describe is something I recognize with my Shields . I would suggest what you already have with the CCwGTV. All the other Android TV devcies are kind of the same device, All not as good as the Shield. Have you done the reaserch to expand storage on the CCwGTV. It's possible once you find the right adapters. Edit:typos.
