Question about side loading apps and my TV’s warranty

by dariomenendez

I want to side load popcorn time but I don’t want to void my Tv’s warranty. I spoke to customer service and they told me it counts as manipulating the device so the warranty would be lost. If I go ahead and side load the apk, and end up having any issue with my tv (broken display for example), could I reset the TV to factory settings so any evidence of this “manipulation” would be lost? Is it possible to erase all traces of a sideloaded app?

They can say whatever they want, but if you're in the states, they have to abide by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. They have to prove that your side-loaded app caused whatever problem you're trying to file a claim for under warranty. The fact that a side-loaded app is installed does not permit them to void their warranty.

Factory reset erases the user data partition, so yes, no lasting record on the device would be left.

It's in no way manipulating anything. All steps involved in side loading are normal Android TV settings

Get an Android TV device instead to side load apps. Problem solved.

Which TV is that... Strange that Sideloading apps is considered against warranty clause.
