Android TV OS for a mini PC?

by bosartig

Short story here: I recently setup a real server in my home (UnRaid/Plex). So I would like to repurpose my Zotac Zbox mini PC, that had been running LibreElec/Kodi. Anyone know of a way to set it up with something like Android TV for my wife? I don't want her to need a keyboard or mouse, just a remote. I'm trying to get rid of the annoyingly slow firestick on her tv.

Android TV is only on devices certified by Google. Unlike AOSP builds, Android TV has components that aren't available to the public (like casting). Unfortunately, that means anything you build on a mini PC won't have all the features of a certified Android TV device.

There's a few x86 Android builds out there, but I don't know if any Android TV builds.

Try Googling "x86 Android TV builds" to see what's out there.

I see some how to guides and sites as well as some videos.

Best wishes and good luck!

I have tried a few builds ... Tosanthony has probably the best of the options but is no longer free. I rather run an emulator on top of windows as several features like Bluetooth do not work on the current builds that I have tried.

Just dropping in to let you know of this: https://archive.org/details/androidtv-x86 the Android 8 (32bit build) works quite well. I've installed it on an old dell E5470 (2017) I can get 4K output (with sound) through the HDMI. I did have to modify two files to get it to work though.

If you're interested in details, let me know and I'll provide details
