Can't watch Android TV when uploading photos. Help please.

by Darth_Haskell

I have DSL internet and every time I upload photos to cloud, internet goes to a crawl and you can't watch anything streaming on android tv at the same time. It just buffers like crazy until the upload is complete. Is this normal?

Using speed test: download speed is 16.5 Megabits per second. Upload 0.7 Mbps.

I would like to setup my internet so I can continue watching android tv, and make the upload bandwidth stay in check.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

If you are maxing out your upload speed while watching then yes, it's normal, because while downloading you have to have upload bandwidth free to send acknowledgement packets to the streaming service you are using.

On the device you use to upload to the cloud install an app that will limit the upload speed to half of your upload speed and then you should be able to stream without buffering.

I use an app at work called clumsy:

It allows me to do all sorts of things to the network traffic on my computer. One thing it can do is throttle all network traffic. You could use this to throttle the traffic for uploading your photos. Then your dsl connection wouldn't get slammed and you'd be able to keep watching TV.

Many home routers have similar features that you might be able to use.
