It looks to be an API issue. The video URL seems to be incorrect causing nothing to play. I'm sure the Dev will a fix tomorrow.
All fixed. Just launched it and had it check for updates, updated to 11.37 and videos work now.

Installed it now and going to see how it works.

I can use the interface but videos will not play. Tried rolling back and signing out but no luck.
Smart Youtube TV is working for me. But SmartTube Next, isn't. And Smart Tube Next is the only one that'll play videos in 4k for me:/

Yes. Videos will not play. Tried a number of versions, no dice. Tried signing out, signing in again, etc., same thing. App goes to play video, but it never loads. Time remaining stays at --.

I couldn’t get next to work, so I tried the official, and that wasn’t working for me either. Tested on my iPad, worked ok there, so rebooted my shield. The official app works now, dunno what happened.

We need a better way to monitor this.

I'm also on the Shield Pro and it's not working for me either. I tried the suggested fix for SmartTubeNext of going back to 11.22 and then upgrading back to 11.37 and it didn't work. I also went back to 11.33 and upgraded from that again and that didn't work either. Clearing data, cache and rebooting the Shield also does nothing. SmartYoutube does nothing but spinning circles.
11.39 just was released a few minutes ago and it fixed the issue for me on my nvidia 2019. Back in business! Thanks!

So you guys also tried the non-next version? I have a sinking feeling that google just changed something that broke it.
I gave up using the app ages ago on my Mi Box 4s as the framerate was all over the place.
