How do I make these recommendations go away from my Home Screen?

Uninstall last update @ Android TV Home app in system apps. If it's a new device, you might not have that option. If you do, then you'll also need to disable auto-update in Google Play Store settings and get in the habit of manually updating apps. Otherwise, it will just update the app again with the spotlight ads.

You could use a different launcher, i.e. "Wolf Launcher", and configure it to be your default launcher. This requires a little bit of work but is worth the effort. I followed these instructions here and am very happy with the results. This was for a Chromecast with Google TV device. For vanilla Android TV, the instructions are a bit different. I documented them here (on the basis of the Walmart Onn UHD Android TV box).

Press Home (wait for the screen to load) Press the down button to scroll all the way to the bottom Press choose channels and a side bar will open with options for what channels you want to appear on your home screen. See this video for a demonstration.

Not trying to troll, I swear, but do these ads really bother people that much?

I mean, you're basically on the home screen to select which service you're going to watch or scroll down to the "up next" row that moves the ads off the screen.

It doesn't seem to me something to get that upset about, but I see a lot of anger on this sub about it.

Delete updates of Android TV Home

I wouldn't have minded if it was news about YouTube channels I follow or a sport I like. But honestly, for that PRIDE bs ? I'd rather unplug the ethernet from the tv and keep the TV part only. Cause not only they are intrusive / invading, they also make the TV lag quite a lot. Which is pathetic considering I paid full price for that TV

Put it in apps only mode or create and use an unrestricted child's profile. Although not sure that's available on all Android TV devices.

  1. Disable auto updates on google play store (user icon -> settings -> auto update)

My God it's the same four aweful ads except LOKI. Why not rotate 8 or 12 so it's not as noticable? Why not change it weekly from more sources? SONY are you listening? This is terrible!

Yep turn off vpn, or use a dutch server. If you don't use vpn I think you won't get rid of it.
