Chromecast with Google TV - No surround sound

by wright96d

Plex is the only app outputting 5.1 surround. Everything else, Netflix, Prime, etc, is downsampled to 2.0. What's going on?

Edit: My main question here, is, why in the everliving fuck can't this device convert the 5.1 signals it's certainly receiving into 5.1 PCM? My receiver can't receive (ha) E-AC3. My PS4 converts everything to 5.1 PCM. I expected this thing to do the fucking same.

*Sorry, I'm quite upset. This isn't the first technology problem I've had this week. I've been through 4 wifi range extenders to find one that's not garbage. I just wanted this thing to fucking work.

Update: HBO Max will send through a plain DD signal to the receiver. I would still prefer DD+ converted to 5.1 PCM, but this is better than just PCM stereo.

Update 2: MoviesAnywhere is 2.0 PCM.

What's your surround system, and how do you connect them?

Wifi range extenders work great if you run a cable back to your router for back haul. The mesh extenders that do everything wirelessly are dog shit though. you'd be better off using powerline adaptors.

Where is this device connected? Is it the TV or the Receiver? Here’s my issue but might not help. Not sure if this is your problem, but I had the same issue. I would watch a video one moment, pause it or change it, and then there was no audio. I am currently using the newest chromecast w/remote and a TV with only the TV’s built in speakers. I went into the device setting and turned the advanced sound setting to manual. But then I saw that if you turn off Surround setting it disables those setting entirely. On my device I can always hear the sound of the in system sounds; such as, moving and selecting apps, but the audio would cut out of actual media once selected. The TV was glitching with the digital handshake once the video was selected and play video with no audio. Turning off the Surround setting solved the problem for me. Different videos have different audio format and coding that the TV may not be able to read. This solved my issue. Hopefully that helped you.
