Sony X750H turns on randomly

by City_of_Edgerton

My Sony X750H powers up by itself without any input at random times of the day and night. I'm not connecting to it by Chromecast, Bluetooth, network, remote, or any other way. There is nobody else on my WiFi network. It just turns on and sits on whatever screen or channel I had it on when I turned it off.

The Chromecast option "let others cast media" is turned off. Bluetooth is turned on so the remote control will work. Remote Start is turned off in BRAVIA settings. IP control is turned off.

Any ideas? :(

I have a Sony X850F connected to NVDA Shield 2019 and Roku Ultra (backup for the kids) and experienced the random "paranormal" power ups late at night about 2-3 times a month.

Since I need CEC on, the NVDIA Shield powers up the DEF-TECH soundbar (tos-link) + TV.

It's hit and miss playing with the featurettes on the TV and media boxes but did the following:

  1. Turned off BT for the Sony Remote, occasionally the neighbor(s) would try to connect to the TV.
  2. Turned off network connectivity for the Sony since I'm using the NVDA Shield as daily driver.
  3. Check the router log for unknown MAC/IP addresses.

It's been couple months and no phantom power ups.

If you don't need it, make sure all CEC options are turned off. Sony calls it Bravia Sync

I have the same issue, as does my mother. She's on the other side of the country, yet there have been several times when her TV has turned on at the same time as mine. Typically, it's been mid-afternoon.

Do you happen to have Xfinity?

I have the same tv and no issues like you describe. There is a setting to auto-power on via HDMI-CEC, which can be disabled. Eg, my son goes and puts his Switch in the Nintendo dock, it powers up the tv and receiver. This is by design, turn it off if it's problematic for you.
