How come the Live Channels app from Android TV has not been ported over to the Google TV platform? I like the UI on Google TV better than Android TV, but I use HD HomeRun networked TV tuners and the Live Channels app is awesome for secondary tv's like in my bedroom or garage.
I love the live channels tab in google tv. Is that what you are referring too? I couldn't find it in Android TV at all.
When you get youtube tv in google tv it just magically appears...

Love Channels app wont appear unless you have a compatible OTA tuner or install a compatible app it pulls channels from, like Pluto.

You can install Live Channels on Chromecast with Google TV: Live Channels - Apps on Google Play
You also need a companion app which supports your HomeRun networked TV tuner such as PVR Live: PVR Live - Apps on Google Play
I have used tried this combination for my TVheadend networked tuners. It works OK on Chromecast with Google TV.
However after some experimenting with this and with other solutions I have gone back to Kodi with an appropriate PVR addon. Add-on:HDHomeRun - Official Kodi Wiki
I have found this to be the best solution because Kodi covers my TV tuners, local mp3 music files and local video library the best, and all three use cases are covered by the one app.
There is an issue with Live Channels on Google TV when it stays hidden even when proper TIF app is installed (it unhides automatically on Android TV in the same case). But you can try TVirl which adds special icon and recent channels to the HOME screen which start Live Channel app
Hi the Live channels works on Google TV , however the menu doesn't vanish so you have to press the back button hopefully the live channels devs will have a look at it on day ok so here is an app that I made works on android tv and Google tv so once installed the app will check if live channels is installed if not then the app will ask you to install live channels and take you to the download page on playstore then when you done you can just open my app as it will auto launch live channels then set up the sources then enjoy free tv and radio . Had your same problem when I sideloaded Google TV onto my Shield - if you search the subreddit, a kind Redditor wrote a simple applet that just shortcuts to Live Channels (there's also another one that goes to the old Play Store interface).
These apps are installed, it's just that Google TV isn't showing the shortcuts to them.

I I stalled Live Channels APK from my Android TV to my CGTV and it works using my HDHomeRun once installed. If you have a APK that doesn't appear under Apps,you can install TVappRepo to creat a shortcut to the app on the home screen
It's there. But you have to either use voice search to open it or look in your settings under apps.
