New Shield Experience Update to v8.2.3. Does NOT add Google TV (Thankfully). Safe to install, but requires 2 installs for some reason.

by kurmudgeon

Adds new device support, and security patch through April 2021.

Details:

Edit: Not sure why it required 2 installs, but this happened on both of my Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 models.

Edit 2: Actually, it looks like this update is bugged and is not properly installing, even after a number of attempts. Probably best to avoid this for now.

Edit 3: Follow the advice here if the update is not installing for you, this worked for me. Seems to be buggy with 2019 models:

Google tv > android tv.

No issues installing for me. worked first time

My 2019 Shield did not require two installs, only one.

I have an older Nvidia Shield (I believe it to be a 16Gb 2015 model) and it updated fine.

For me both the 2015 and 2017 models updated on the first try. Everything seems ok.

Unfortunately, it's not getting installed after several tries for me! Did you check in About section if it's actually upgraded or not? Still showing 8.2.2 after several attempts!

I still don't have any ads on my home screen. Will performing this update automatically update the Android TV Home app? I haven't updated that and I've kept away from ads so far.

I will avoid this update if it adds ads...none of the "fixes" or new "features" apply to my setup.
