Best External Media player for Mi Box S

I have a Mi Box S that I mostly use to watch anime on, I've been doing fine with VLC but it can't seem to handle subtitles that well. I tried Kodi, and while subtitles are better, video seeking ruins the playback and it just straight out becomes buggy. My media is stored in an external USB 3.0 HDD that I simply connect to the Mi Box S.

I know that the Mi Box S is an old device but which app would give me the best video playback that can also handle anime subtitles? (signs and songs that are well-blended to the media) Since I don't have much of a choice regarding what Android TV device I can use.

You should give Nova Video Player a try, it's very good. It should work on your box since it runs fine on a phone or tablet .

I'm using Kodi on the Mi box S with no problems with seeking.

The MiBoxS is a pretty awesome little device, if you ask me! VLC is a great media player for most devices, but I use MX for most videos on the MiBoxS.. Get a 3.0 USB hub and you'll be set!

From memory the Mi Box S has only usb 2.0, so your read speeds aren't going to be too good when video seeking depending on the size of the file (quality), though possibly you can alter the settings in kodi to increase the buffer size. Usually I have done that for streaming wirelessly, but I suppose it might help if the USB speed is the bottleneck.

You can adjust the way Kodi seeks during playback. Have it jump 10 seconds forward, instead of the default 30 seconds.

My lady runs Kodi, MPV, MX Player & VLC on her Mi Box 4K without issue.

Regardless if from her locally connected 4TB Portable HDD or my wireless network servers.
