mi TV stick many problems, bought a far superior firetv stick which works

Eventually bought a mi tv stick and have the following problems and instantly regret wasting money on this device:

  1. Wifi 5Ghz difficult to connect to and reception very weak, loses connection after a reboot and need to unplug the power to reconnect. 2.4 GHZ no problem but it interferes with the bluetooth speaker transmission (no problems connecting my other devices - firetv sticks, pc's to wifi network)

  2. Bluetooth mouse can be paired but after each reboot need to pair the bluetooth mouse again.

  3. Cant use a usb mouse.

  4. Install chrome browser freezes up the mi tv stick device, no such problem on the 1gb version of firetv stick 2nd gen or the new one.

Anyone considering buying this mi tv stick should avoid and rather consider the amazon firetv stick, it is the same price and the performance is far superior.

I had a mi tv stick. I sold it to someone because it had a very poor performance, like it barely ran. Then I got mi box s. It's not perfect, but it's quite an improvement over mi stick. Regardless, both of these devices' software is extremely buggy. You have to learn how to workaround it. For example, when i turn off the mi box, it's not really turned off, it goes on to sleep mode. But there's a serious issue with that. if i let it sit in sleep mode while plugged into wall, when i turn it on tomorrow morning, apps become quite laggy. As if extra garbage just starts at night and clutters the ram while it is on the sleep mode. So i just unplug it from the wall to turn it off completely when i am not using it. There's more little shitty things like that. I have 30 Mbps wifi speed on all of my devices but mi box is only able to reach 21-24 Mbps. I haven't found a solution to this.

Been using the Mi Stick as a secondary streaming device since November last year.

  1. No issues with the wifi. My router is Deco M5 whereas at the office where I occasionally use the Mi Stick is using Deco M4.

  2. No comments as the only bluetooth device I use with it is a speaker.

  3. A known fact before purchase.

  4. I installed chrome just to get a specific, modded local streaming app running.. so far no freezes.

Before the latest system update I experienced quite a few crashes and reboots.. now it is stable. But I did do a few tweaks here and there.

Been using the stick for 8 months now.

  1. Don't have any issues with wi-fi. My router is Deco M4.
  2. Recently found out that it's actually a Xiaomi issue...the Mi Box S also have the same problem
  3. No OTG support is really a drag
  4. No comment since I don't use a browser on it.
