Sony Bravia "TV App" on a Chromecast for Google TV

by palkaly

Hello!

On my Sony Bravia AH8 running Android TV there is a built-in "TV app" that allows the user to quickly switch to TV input (or any other input of your choosing really)

It was nice because it sat on the home screen if I even wanted to watch cable tv I could quickly switch inputs and treat cable tv just like any other app.

I decided to start using the new Chromecast with Google TV for the updated OS new features but the built-in "TV-app" is sorely missing. I can no longer quickly switch inputs via an app and instead have to use the input button on the remote. Not a big deal except the input button is buggy and skips the correct input more often than not.

I'm sure there is an app or tool in Google Play app store that would allow me to quickly switch inputs or there's a way to "side load" the TV app already on my Android TV. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Why don't you just press the TV button of your Sony remote?

I hear you. And yes I believe I can use the Sony Remote with the new Google TV. But 1. I’m liking the new Chromecast remote. 2. If I accidentally hit the HOME button ON THE Sony remote it returns me to the old android TV interface and 3. I’m seeking a 1 remote solution.

If you can help me figure out how to make my Sony Bravia remote more “universal” and have it work seemlessly with Google TV and control my shitty Spectrum cable box then I’m all ears.
