What is the point of the Live Channels app? I see it here, but I'm not able to add YouTubeTV and Philo as sources so I can have all channels in one place. What is it for exactly?
Thank you! 👍

This might be irrelevant, but here is an app that I made for that purpose, I can add more channels long as they free and easy to get and when I have time Free news IPTV
If you ever get an I**V service just use Tivimate ;)
Demo of the App working how it works with live channels
It’s an app that works like a traditional TV interface (up/down channels) and you can add new ones though apps (for example the TVirl app for internet channels in M3U or a HDHomeRun device for traditional TV channels over the air), if the app is not compatible with Live Channel you must request that feature to the app developers (I know that YouTube TV is from Google and totally don’t understand why they do not support their own interface)
I find it very handy and it’s one of the few apps my elderly parents fully use and understand, that’s why I feel kinda sad about reports that the new Google TV interface does not allow this app (could someone please enlighten me if that is accurate or not?)
I have a HDHomerun Prime (Cable Card) and was able to get Live Channels to work, but the most annoying thing is how it needs to do a channel scan for every Android TV device you have. When using Kodi and the PVR Plugin, it just grabs the list from the hdhr itself, no need to do a complete scan for each client.
At some point, Live Channels stopped working, could not decode any of the channels, so after a few attempts (mostly factory resetting the shield) I gave up and went back to Kodi. HDHomerun is the most popular digital tuner, yet it only works with beta drivers, which have never been updated.
Live Channels just never lived up tp it's potential, developers didn't embrace it including YTTV. There are better apps for pretty much everything it's capable of doing so there is, in these day and times, not much point in it.
The "Live Channels" app doesn't work as an standalone app but it needs "plugins" in order to work, those plugins are just apps made to support it, for example:
- Pluto TV: It adds all the live channels.
- HDHomerun: it adds all the live channels from the network tuner.
- PVR Live: it works as a plugin to add live channels from M3U files and also from servers such us TVHeadend, among others.
- FTA Tuner loader: It adds support for MyGica USB tuners.
- There are some news apps with a live broadcasting that you can add to the app as well.
YouTube TV and Philo are not supported, that is, they haven't provided support to the app yet.
