Chromecast with Google TV OR Tivo Stream 4K?

by HNethmina_04

I'm hoping to buy a tv box for my dumb LED TV. But I can't decide between Chromecast with Google TV and Tivo Stream 4K. What do you think is better and Why?

*I'm not in US.

Chromecast better, quicker, longer updates

when they are so similar, always choose 1st party. you're gonna get the best support long term and most stable platform all-term ... generally speaking anyway. If it were a different OS or a custom built one (like Roku) then it'd be more consideration for me, but your comparing google OS vs google OS. I have the Google CCwTV and it's fantastic. The ONLY things I'd change would be: wish I could hard-line the internet (adapter optional fro $20 USD), and I added a silicone case to the remote. That thing is sooooo small and slippery we lost it in the bed sheets day 2. With case now it even slightly glows in the dark.

now. if you'd said "Shield TV Pro" vs "GCCwTV" I'd say Shield because it's just more powerful. But it is significantly more expensive.

I have both. The Chromecast is the better device in all ways (performance, interface) except the remote. The Tivo remote is just so much better. For that reason alone I use the Tivo as my living room device and the Chromecast as my bedroom device.

lament

I have both. Go with the Chromecast with Google TV.

I would go with the CCwGTV, the future of the Tivo Stream 4k may be in doubt. https://9to5google.com/2021/05/07/tivo-android-tv-plans/ I think its a very nice device myself. I hope they stick with it.

As I always say, a given device is the best for you depending on your budget and needs, therefore, when comparing both devices:

Specs CCWGTV Tivo Stream 4K
SoC S905D3 ( Quad-core 1.9 GHz (ARM Cortex-A55)) S905Y2 ( Quad-core 1.8 GHz (ARM Cortex-A53))
GPU ARM Mali-G31 MP2 ARM Mali-G31
RAM 2GB 2GB
Storage 8GB 8GB
OS Android 10 Android 9
Interface Google TV launcher Android TV launcher with some Tivo personalizations

As you can see they are practically similar.

I have the Tivo Stream 4k.

It works great. I have no experience with the other.

Thanks

Gonna chime in and add to what others have said. TiVo has better sling tv integration, CCWGTV if you want better Youtube TV support. Youtube TV app on TiVo has issues right now so if it's important to you get that. Otherwise, TiVo has a better remote, better codec support, cheaper but a slightly slower performance, no google watchlist and android 9 vs 10. TiVo was $35 on amazon the other day is usually $38, that $10-15 could go towards external storage/ethernet adapter if that's your thing.

edit: Given the recent TiVo announcement, it's best to go with the CCWGTV as google is more likely to support it in the long term ~3-5 years vs TiVo.

Chromecast in my opinion. It's not the fastest and the Remote is a little lackluster but it does a pretty nice job if you're looking to stream from the popular streaming services and use popular Android apps.

I know people are hating on the tivo, but I like it. The integrated tivo is actually pretty cool to me. I can see why it's a little more laggy than the Google CC but not enough to be upset about. Just my opinion. They are both good choices, for me I just prefer the tivo for minor reasons.

Either would probably be fine. If you are budget conscious I would get whichever is cheaper if I were you.

…..best of both. nVidia shield. JMTCW

Neither. Look for Dynalink on Amazon. It is Android TV, not Google TV but specs are basically the same as CCwGTV without the bloat. Dynalink also has a better remote and is on sale this month. Not sure if any of this applies outside the US though.
