Drop that idea. Get a quality tv with no regards to the OS. Then get something like the Shield TV.

Yes. GoogleTV runs on the Android OS platform.

'Google TV' is largely just 'Android TV' with a facelift. presumably, more than just the Chromecast and some Sony tvs will start running Google TV instead, but we're still seeing new TVs like Hisense's 2021 models running Android TV.

maybe these and others will eventually get OS updates that switch them over, but who knows. Google's television strategy, like much of what they do, has been quite a mess

There are TVs that run Android tv natively, and then there are dongles and boxes with Android Tv installed.

Google TV is a skin for Android TV OS.

Chromecast with Google tv is the main one for dongles. Nvidia shield is the best for boxes.

I think Google TV is just a launcher replacing Android TV Home running on top of Android TV OS.
