I'm looking at purchasing a Sony Bravia TV which now has Google TV built in, but I don't love the complicated remote that comes with it. Can you pair the Chromecast Voice Remote directly with a tv running android/Google TV as a second remote? I've seen a few people ask the question but no one has tried it an given an answer.
I remember reading a comment that someone had issues with some of the buttons when they paired it to their shield tv.
I've also heard that the Sony TV's now have a "pro" mode or dumb tv mode or something which disables the android tv inside the tv, in case you want to use an external device instead. So you could always get the new Chromecast and just use that instead exclusively since they aren't too expensive.
I would suggest the shield remote over the CCwGTV remote, plus Nvidia sells them separately.
Just to update, Google responded and confirmed that the remote only works with the Chromecast dongle and not with other devices.
It's a Bluetooth remote so in theory it should work but you can't be 100% sure
