Is Sony Bravia the best Android TV brand?

by AdmirableFormal5731

They seem produce the best picture quality and colour accuracy upscaling and motion processing.

I wouldn't get a TV based on the fact that is runs Android TV. Buy a nice TV, then get a Shield.

I'd say yes if you're looking for something with Android TV built directly into the TV, however, the best android TV device would be the Shield TV, which has better upscaling than any device that I'm aware of, as well as a much more powerful processor than that which is built into any TV (particularly good if you plan on using it for android games or if you want to stream games from your gaming PC to your TV). Picture Quality and Colour accuracy, in this case, would come down to the TV you buy, which could be any brand.

In case you're unaware, the Shield tv is a separate device entirely that you'd plug into one of your HDMI ports.

Hard yes. They have the tightest QA in the world, no kidding. The new OLED is their best yet. Pricey though.

My 14 year old Bravia is a testament to reliability and superb picture quality. It had the best blacks in the industry then (and I paid for it), and has picture quality that can be compared to almost any TV on the market today and win hands down.

Obviously, I can’t speak to Sony’s capabilities as a Smart TV, but as with many Smart TVs, their smartness is focused mainly on those apps that they have some financial ties to.

I highly recommend, no matter how smart the TV is, that you invest in an Nvidia Shield, FireTV4K, or other external box.

My Samsung “smart” TV proves how slanted and one-sided a TV can be. So limited in its functionality that it should not have been marketed as “smart”.

That is my opinion. If you have “been there - done that”, then chances are that you will agree.

The t-con board tends to fail after some years. Be prepared when the brightness starts to dim or the tv shuts down out of nowhere.

I love my 75" bastard.

It's the best brand period. I greatly prefer mine to my old 17 lg oled.

I have an older Sony Bravia, X900E, the Android on-board is fine for most day to day stuff (for me at least, Youtube, Netflix, one or two TV on demand apps, Plex for music and HD content)

Having said that - it cannot handle high bitrate (e.g. 4K + lossless audio content) - that's when I switch on the Shield.

As others have said, it would probably be best to have a 'dumb tv' with a Shield.. but since that's not an option, here we are.

No. I own a Bravia and Sony sucks with support. The best Android TV brand is a separate Nvidia device hooked up via HDMI to any TV with a decent picture. (Edit: Alternatively, the new Chromecast with Google TV is pretty nice. AND CHEAP! I have two of them.) All TV's with Android TV built in will become something you'll regret having to use over time. Fortunately Sony TV's have the ability to completely disable the smart features in what's called "Pro Mode," so they've got that going for them. A Sony 4k/HDR TV in Pro Mode with an Nvidia Shield (or new Chromecast) attached is a pretty decent setup though.

If you are looking for a TV set , not add ons like Nvidia Shield than SONY probably has the best color, motion and very impottantly reliability. That said it depends on what you are looking for. Some people love OLED TV sets because of the deep blacks but you have the issue of burn in.

I will tell you this; I have two Sony sets I use and one I bought around 2008 or 20099 when HD sets were new and it is in my basement but when I turn it one it still works and looks very good.

If you are looking for a TV that has fewer repairs excellent picture and great quality then SONY is your best bet. I don't like their Android TV but I use AppleTV 4k and Roku so it does not matter. Their support people are clueless as well but that can be said of almost any company these days.

I'd say yes.

My A8H is super nice and if you get the new models, they support HDMI 2.1.

Super fast UI on mine.

All I can say is I really like mine. I usually have heaps of buyers remorse after any technology purchase and I did not, do not have it now. I consume all content through steaming apps and have digital antenna hooked up for local new type things. All work flawlessly.

I own one and as long as you use wireless connection to a decent router, all is well. The LAN port on the TV is only 10/100, and has been a significant bottleneck when streaming 4k over SMB. So if you plan to buy one, buy a router too.

firsthour

Depends on the model (minimum X900H), but you can also always buy a high end LG or Samsung and then the $50 Chromecast with Google TV to get the same thing if not better. The mid to high end Sonys are awesome though.

SmallsR34

Give me a dumb TV with superb PQ.

failmatic

Right now I think the Sony are the best tv that runs android tv. Just as a tv, The Sony a90j and lg g1 are top of line in terms of pq.

Don't buy the tv for because of android tv. It could be used as a tiebreaker but not the sole reason. As a platform gets more and more features, assuming that it does get more more features and not discontinue, the TV won't have the hardware to run it or even update and it becomes very sluggish. Or it doesn't even have the hard work to support the new codec if any. I can't speak for most people but I typically upgrade every 5 years. And by the 5th Year I've already have a set top box such as Nvidia shield attached to it and not use the TV OS.

I'd say so

"Best" depends on what you want. Sony has great TVs with good reliability and picture quality. Other brands also have great TVs that might compete on price, or other additions. Philips Ambilight is amazing and no one can offer anything similar. If you want picture quality, on here you're always going to get people telling you to buy the best PQ TV you can and use a secondary smart device. For myself, that is an HTPC, for others that is a shield. Personally, I feel you get used to what PQ you have and as long as you enjoy the improvement you will be satisfied but a step back is never a good thing. I will probably never give up Ambilight though; to me it is a deal breaker.

Atomic_Maxwell

For me, yeah. One of my jobs was selling different TVs, and though always tried to maintain neutrality on an obvious preference, Sony has been my personal go-to for what I want out of the tv. Plus as someone who’d only experienced Roku then FireOS, last year with AndroidTV has kinda won me over. Giving my mom my x900h later this year and jumping up to the either 95j, a80, or potentially a90j.

Echo_Lan

Different people may have different opinions. For me, I prefer the Global Skyworth TV Brand that I have used for almost a year with good rendering of images and motions.

thebaldconvict

Got to say I don't like mine very much, There are TV's with a better picture and Sony drop them far too quickly, less than 2 years old and mine will not get GoogleTV.

If I was buying today it would be a different brand and a Google Chromecast with GoogleTV.
