How to lock android TV into an app.

by ArmandoUrso

I'm looking into a Chromecast with Google TV for my mom. She's 92 years old.

I'm getting her into IPTV with Tivimate. She uses a total of like 10 channels so I can add those to a list of favorites and all she'll have to do is press the down button to toggle channels.

I've ran into a possible problem. Trying to get her to use android TV will be a nightmare. I can set Tivimate to open when the device turns on but let's say she accidentally presses the home button.

I'm wondering if there is any way to lock her into the Tivimate app ? Is that even possible ? This way if she exits by accident it won't let her.

Also does anyone know if the CCGTV remote can be reprogrammed so the Netflix button acts as a button to open tivimate ?

You can try button mapper to change the buttons around , I use it for screenshot with the home button hold and press :)

Just an idea... Tasker + app based profile with "not your app" as a trigger + task that launches your app. This way even if she does open anything else, tasker would immediately bring the right app back.

If you haven't bought the Chromecast with Google TV, maybe you can consider the Nvidia shield tube. The remote has the menu button that you can set to open a specific app when you double click on it.

I believe what Tivimate you can turn on parental lock to lock all the categories that you don't want to show up on the list so it's not too cluttered.

You can also search button remap Google TV, how to geek website has a page that shows you how to do it but I'm not sure if it's up to date
