Am I the only one who doesn't like the new google TV UI ?

by abeel_siddiqui

I personally feel overwhelmed by the amount of information it shows and filled with random unnecessary reccomedations. For context i have not tried it yet, but looking at reviews online it kinds gives me a reason not to buy the new Chromecast.

I highly prefer the android oreo UI thats gives you your main apps at glance while also mantaining some reccomedations from other apps. Keeping a balance.

Again, my opinion may change once I try it, but if anyone of you have used it, please tell me how is it and how did the transition felt like to the new UI from the old one ? Lemme know.

It's fucking awful!

It's typical Google slowly increasing the amount of advertising and will probably one day force you watch a full screen ad "recommendation" to answer a call.

After owning FireTV devices for a while I ordered an Android TV because Google wasn't covered in ads everywhere, that's no longer the case, it's horrible.

I hate the cluttered look personally

triplebeamz

You are not . Thankfully you can always install a different launcher

RapunzelLooksNice

ATV Launcher and you are finally free of Google crap :)

Dude it’s gonna be the UI moving forward so might as well get used to it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Google eventually starts blocking side loading of other launchers. 🙄

Y2Bogus

Nope, I hate it too. Lots of people do.

tiger5000

No, uninstalled updates on the launcher.

It is choke full with ads they call recommendations. I've switched to ATV launcher right away on CCwGTV, and if i wouldn't be able to, i'd probably return the device.

bojansam

Someone tried to change DNS to remove ads, Adguard for example ?

rival_22

I switched from Roku a few weeks ago when I got a good deal on a TV with Android inatalled, and I miss the simplicity of Roku.

I don't know what everyone’s complaining about. I’m loving my Chromecast with Google TV.

SimoneRancati

By the way in settings you can enable app only mode to remove almost every suggested film or tv series

jfrorie

I would be far happier with it only recommending media that is available on my installed apps.

Otherwise, I've just bought a highway billboard.

It looks terrible. I much prefer how Roku or Apple TV look.
