Xiaomi mi box s 4k with soundbar problem

by abstruzero

Hi all. I have a weird problem for a year now. I got mi box s 4k and my soundbar(s) started to act weird. The problem is when I connect mi box to TVs hdmı or soundbars hdmı , my soundbar does not work. Tv does not connect via arc and there is no sound from soundbar.

First my 3 year old lg tv and sony soundbar: Mi box to soundbar hdmı, soundbar(arc) to tv(arc) = no sound

Second mi box to tv hdmı, soundbar(arc) to tv(arc): no sound

Tv remote also cant change volume on soundbar. When I remove mibox , everything works just fine.

So I tried the box with my other samsung 2020 tv and lg soundbar. Same issue. Mi box somehow interfere with soundbar and tv connection.

Any idea what ım doing wrong. I don't want to use optical cable between soundbar and tv which works with mi box without problem but ı loose dolby vs..

I desperately need an answer to that as well! My Soundbar is weird as well and I've just found out that's because of the freaking Mi Box!

OP, I think I've "fixed" it! (The automatic sync to turn the soundbar on/off with the TV controller is still not 100% though).

Please try this:

Step 1

Unplug every power cable (TV, Mi box, Soundbar, and everything else you have connected via hdmi to your TV) and every hdmi cable from your TV

Step 2

Plug the power cables back and turn your TV on, then connect your sound bar's hdmi to the TV and make sure that the sound output is set to HDMI ARC

Step 3

Plug your Mi box's hdmi to the TV and turn it on. Go to the Mi Box settings and check the sound options... There will be the option to change the "sound format" (since mine is not in english, I don't know exactly what's the translation here), then select "Automatic".

Test the sound :)

Step 4

Connect all the other hdmi cables back.

Hopefully that will help you solve the issue!

PS.: If the sound stops working again, just turn the Mi box on, and then come back to whatever you were doing.

PS.2: sorry for my English! Cheers

Same problem here with Mi box S and JBL bar 9.1 and Samsung Qled 90R

Edit: issue came back so I've just unplugged HDMI and when I use it I plug it in.

I have this problem and it was driving me insane. Now I don't care about cec on the mi box however even with the option off it was still causing issues with the soundbar controls. I googled and found this command which completely disables HDMI cec controls. Please note that the unit stays on so you'll need to turn it on/off with the mi box remote but since it doesn't use much power I just leave it on.

abd shell settings put global hdmi_control_enabled 0

Hopefully Xiaomi fix this issue because it ruined my entire setup
