Is the xiaomi mi tv stick good enough for chromecasting 1080p?

by prusilusk

I've been wanting to upgrade my 1st gen chromecast to a chromecast device with an interface, remote and bluetooth support. Currently for me it's between the chromecast with google tv, xiaomi mi tv stick and xiaomi mi tv s. In my region the mi stick is definitely the cheapest option at 30€ with the others costing around 60-70€. However, I've heard some bad things about the xiaomi mi tv stick's performance. If I'll mostly be casting to it, not browsing, using apps etc., that shouldn't be a problem, right? I'd like to hear from anyone who has used the mi stick as a chromecast decvice if it works well enough for that purpose. Also, if there is any major reason to spend more on the nicer chromecast compatible devices please tell me.

Yeah, it's pretty good for casting. The stick is slow when navigating menus, but for video playback it gets the job done.

My Mi TV Stick is fine for all purposes (except gaming and stuff of course).

Casting, playing things on its own, navigating, all fine.

It could but ultimately depends on your home wifi setup

I have one and I have no complains

It's all good but with a fatal flaw. The heat sink is too small leading to crashes, slowness and unpredictable behaviour.

Fix:

buy a cheap aluminium m.2 ssd heatsink, carefully remove the casing, join the new heatsink together using thermal tape provided. Lightly scotch tape over them together to secure. The remote will still work but the on/off light would be a little hard to see

For the price I would get a CCwGTV.
