Using a Hisense AndroidTV and after a recent update the hisense remote no longer adjust volume for the hdmi connected a/v receiver. Tried every audio related setting short of resetting the TV back to factory settings. Was the feature dropped? Thx.

Never had such an option on my Bravia with Optical, sadly. Let me know if you figure it out.
That's the intended behavior, to only be able to control the volume with the AVR's remote control rather than the TV's remote unless:
You're playing a video or music with an audio codec different than Dolby and DTS, which can be controlled with the TV's and AVR's remotes.
Your TV have a setting where you can change the volume behavior from fixed to variable.
You have HDMI-CEC turned ON which in turn changes how the volume is controlled.
