I bought a Sony TV a couple months back and I have so many issues with Android TV on it that I'm highly considering getting a dongle to use instead of the built in functions.
I think Sony already has something like this, but either way this is great for people who don't want Smart TV features
To be clear, they're not removing functionality for the users who want it. They're making a 'dumb tv' option for the users who only want a TV with physical inputs.
I just bought a Fire TV Edition yesterday, and during setup it asked me if I wanted to sign in to Amazon services and have the full experience or choose a pared down experience with 5 streaming apps and basic tv features. Seems to be a similar strategy here.
this is neat. I can just turn off may laggy built in android tv not let it show up on Chromecast option while I use android tv on my MiBox.
I love my built in apps. Maybe it's a webos thing? I don't use my chromecast.
Any bets on if it'll still have ads?
Sounds like Roku’s days are numbered.
But you still have to pay the price of a "smart tv"?
Good. It's a real concern for buying my mom a new tv soon. I don't want her to have to navigate through a bunch of menus to watch westerns on cable
