Using USB hub with mi box S

by Pdvsky

Hello everyone!

I have recently bought a usb hub to use with my mi box s to be able to use my keyboard, usb joystick, and an extra storage. And it has all worked fine, except for the storage.

When I transformed my pendrive into a internal storage, everything slowed down a lot(Netflix, Amazon prime) is this a problem with the usb hub, the pen drive, both? None?

Could be pendrive cause most of them are not built for this type of usage. I use an a1 spec sd card to make sure it performs well enough but it could be hub too. I had a cheap hub before and had all sort of problems. After getting a little more decent one all of the problems gone.

You can test it by plugging your pendrive directly to the USB port on the box without using a hub. If it's still slow, then your pendrive is too slow. Otherwise, the hub is likely the source of slow read/write.

If you use a USB 3.0 hub it will perform at max USB 2.0 speeds & internal storage is basically useless unless it's done with an SSD & if it messes up, you lose the drive, no way to reformat or save it.

Sdcard readers can fail too, so don't let people tell you to use one like that's a solution either.

If you have connected other devices too to the USB hub, it can be possible that the hub is unable to provide sufficient power for the drive. I specifically chose a hub that has an external power supply port. Check if you have one and see if improves.

Why would you? Mibox uses usb 2, of course it'll be slow
