This feature will only work with playlists @ Kodi. After creating playlists, you may need to restart your Android TV to force them to appear in the custom channels menu.
Do you have anything in your library? If you are watching through addons nothing will show up. Except if you integrate stuff from the addon to your library. Check r/addons4kodi for this. I managed to do it a couple of years ago, but ended up not sticking with it. Don't remember how though.
