This is weird: Google Play Movies and TV app latest update is dated October 25th 2018, but I know Google has published several updates since then, I removed any updates installed but no updates showed up in the apps section of the Play Store anymore, do you see the same thing on your device/TV?

Go to the app in your settings and look at the app Info. The real version should be there.

It's nearly as up to date as the 4K movie section

Google Play Movies and TV has been replaced by a new app called Google TV. This is probably why there are no updates showing. See if you can find the new app.
