Is Xiaomi MI TV Stick really that sluggish?

by deniscerri

I have been looking through reviews and everyone seems to have a bad time with it. Could it be just day 1 software? Did it get patched the following months. It looks like a cheap way for me to use android tv, since it also has chromecast. I dont really need chromecast with google tv because i dont use streaming services but xiaomi's stick fills in my needs since my tv is only 1080p, apart from the fact that people say its really slow.

What is your experience with it? Thank you

I bought it, used it, sent it back 2 months later. Added £10 and bought the Chromecast Google TV and haven't looked back. If you want a cheap stick that will do everything get the Chromecast Google TV - you won't be sorry

I have a Mi box and Mi stick. The stick is a bit slower but it is not like you are like waiting for it to do something. I'm happy with both of them. Best value for money both of them. They both gets used for streaming only.

personally I'd never buy a streamer with only 1 GB of ram. but that's just me.

2 GB is the bare minimum.

No, it's pretty good for media consumption, I own two of them

mi tv stick is worth the money if you don't have nothing

It's android tv so it doesn't need that much to work actually

Enough for chromecasting / miracasting anything you want in full hd and get some good apps

I actually get 5GO/8 left with all apps installed so you know android tv is just a connected interface very useful to broadcast personal content from phone and other devices

Finally android tv is nothing more than an advanced broadcaster with a small os to manage it and the mi tv stick is far enough a good choice to play with all your other devices

Giving more money to get android tv will be a shame nowadays

PS its on android 9 and Ive heard it will get 10 or 11 and even google tv so you know for 30 euros go go go

I have made a post similar to yours in the r/Xiaomi subreddit. It has a ton of answers so i would recommend you to check it. Here is the link

It's all good but with a fatal flaw. The heat sink is too small leading to crashes, slowness and unpredictable behaviour.

Fix:

buy a cheap aluminium m.2 ssd heatsink, carefully remove the casing, join the new heatsink together in reverse using thermal tape provided. Lightly scotch tape over them together to secure. The remote will still work but the on/off light would be a little hard to see

Truly ugly but solved the problem

Don't Buy it. Go for Fire TV or MI box instead. Just brought one recently and the performance is very poor

What about now? Compared to the 4K stick? Would you still buy a box?
