How to get rid of the annoying pause screen that takes up half the screen on YouTube app?

by Etheo

Whenever we pause a video on YouTube there's a control overlay that takes up half the screen and makes the bottom half black. It becomes really annoying when you try to pause for the subtitles or to follow along instructions.

The worst thing is it also takes a few seconds to hide away so ends up you got to rewind the video a 10 seconds as well.

Terrible UI design.

Hit the back button once while paused.

Use smart YouTube next instead. If I press pause no overlay is there. If I hold pause the overlay pops up. Much better interface and a bonus of no ads at all.

the press back thing is a lot of process and not user friendly. Wish they can make it optional to have that super big and annoying pause screen instead of forcing a lot of process and hassle on their users.

I managed to get rid of it by clicking Exit on my Samsung tv remote. Back or Return buttons did not work.
