Make sure your on the same WiFi. If you are have you tried rebooting the Chromecast and/or router?

In addition to what u/SensitiveTaro said, you may need to turn the ability to cast on in the Chromecast. Not sure if that's a thing on there but it is on the ShieldTV. My Chromecast worked right of of the box though without changing any settings.
