CCGTV has a better remote and better Chromecast integration, but if you're already using Mi Box S 4K, I don't think it's gonna feel like much of an upgrade. I recently upgraded from Mi Box S to NVidia Shield Pro and I couldn't be happier. I still have my Mi Box S (which has optical out) hooked into my stereo system as a Chromecast music receiver.

PS: The reason I upgraded to NV Shield TV was I wanted to do some light to medium gaming and stream Steam Link from my desktop PC.

I have both and the CCGTV is definitely better but not huge difference imho. Once the software is updated to Google TV on the Mi Box they will actually be quite similar. If a personal preference but I prefer the MiBox remote.

Google TV was a pain to get expanded storage. I’d keep the Mi Box for now

I have both. Both work well. I've grown fond of the chromecast. And I like the remote.

I have a Mix Box S. I used it mainly for movies (netflix, amazon, hbo, disney, kodi) but the Disney's android app doesn't work well on any Android device. You can't get 5.1 audio. But it also works well for casual gaming with remote gamepads.

For me mi box S is the best of both world , it has android tv with chromecast built in. Amazing device

Go to apk mirror and sideload Google for Android TV version 5.3.0.331218010 and Launcher X version 1.0.334424535.

And you will have the Google TV home screen UI on your Mi Box or Shield TV.

Tested on Shield Pro 2015, Pro 2019, Mi Box 3 and Mi Box S.

Might not apply to you, but CCGTV is able to handle my HDHomerun Prime TV Tuner over wifi where Mibox S can not. That said, Have had users here tell me this is a me problem and that the S handles HDHR no problem.

The CGTV is neutered with a 32-bit OS (no 64-bit apps like Dolphin, even tho it has a 64-bit processor under the hood, thus 'locked' to 32-bit/2GB of RAM) it only works with external media formatted to FAT32 via a USB-C hub (no files bigger than 4GB) the USB-C connection has its data transfer speeds limited & it's missing the storage access framework needed by some EMUs for media selection, like DuckStation.

And if you intend to run games/EMUs with a Bluetooth controller, you're going to need a higher power wall wart than the one it comes with.

The Mi Box S is basically the same as the 2016 Mi Box 4K, sans for a new WiFi radio iirc, same 32-bit OS & 2GB of RAM.

I have both. The Chromecast works miles better. I would not buy it again. None of those. :/

Dolby Digital (from DD+ transcoding) doesn't work on anything on the Chromecast with Google TV. (Netflix, Hulu , Disney etc) except KODI passthrough. Instead of 5.1 getting stereo from the surround speakers.

Using Apple TV, Firestick etc.

When it comes to Google TV, I watched a lot of YouTuber's raving reviews and after buying it I was very disappointed. Laggy interface, slow and buggy chromecast, unacceptable sound quality over bluetooth, still no fixes or updates.

Mi Box is better. Google TV is an ugly and inconvenient dongle.

I prefer boxes and you can add more storage and USB hub under your cabinet.

Well My Mibox S crashed on me so purchased chromecast google tv. Dont buy mibox S when there is updates. There has been so many cases of issues. Better to purchase google than xaomi.

I don't have experience with the Mi Box S, but I can definitely recommend getting the Chromecast with Google TV if you can.

The Chromecast is better. And also has better processor. I bought myself a Mi box though because it still is very good and it's cheaper than the Chromecast in my area

Honestly, I have both, Mi Box S is better, but if you want best user experience I recommend an apple tv.
