You have to set the Kodi manually under expert options for the resolutions.
It does this just incase the TV does not support 4k mode.
Okay, now solved the issue by using MX Player as an external player instead of Default Kodi , VLC is good on PC and Macs but not as good in Android TV. I use Kodi with Addons so I have no choice but to use that.
Switching to MX player saved me $50 to invest on FireTV or Google Tv with chromecast, as matter of fact I was thinking of buying Shield which is as expensive as my TV👻
Most of ths Android TV app interfaces are locked to 1920*1080 resolution, but once you play a 4K video it kicks into 4k resolution.
