Google TV + Stadia Controller + GeForce Now

by De_wasbeer

Hi there!

I’m a very happy user of the google TV. I’ve been playing stadia and love it, there is however a very limited selection of games.

I’ve tried to install GeForce Now and play some games and it also works very nice.

I’m however now using a PS4 controller which introducties a couple of annoyances:

  • I need to pair the controller every time i want to play a game
  • I need to hard disconnect the controller every time i finish the game otherwise it just keeps burning battery until its empty
  • it’s ugly AF.

Therefore I’d like to purchase a stadia controller. But i was wondering:

  • Am i able to use the stadia controller outside the stadia app ?
  • Is pairing the controller a single time sufficient and does it invoke a sleep function to preserve battery ?
  • Does the stadia controller work with GeForce now ?

Thank you all for the help!

Kind Regards.

EDIT: The reason i’m asking this is because the ps (and xbox) controller work via Bluetooth, the stadia contorller works via WiFi, i don’t know if this causes any (driver) issues ?

Use a Xbox controller works no problem also gamepass has a good deal on at the min and works on the Chromecast too but needs sideload

Stadia controller works as a generic controller when plugged in via USB. You can only use wireless with Stadia.

I have personally used the Stadia controller with Steam on PC and GeForce Now on PC and they both work great (wired).

I have not used GFN (or Stadia) on my CC+GTV. But you would need a powered usb-c hub to connect the controller for GFN.

As mentioned I hope they add support to use the controller over bluetooth at some point, but I don't think that is a priority for Google right now.

That being said, I love the Stadia controller and have four of them.

Hello u/De_wasbeer . Did you manage to find a working solution for you? I am exactly in your same situation and would like to know whether the Stadia controller works for GFN on Google TV or what alternative did you find. Thanks

If this is still in your interest, I will get a GoogleTV for christmas, I'm gonna test this with my Stadia controller, since I found this post because I've got the same question. I could keep you updated
