How do I make google assistant stop responding verbally?

by mmorearty

On my Chromecast with Google TV, some things that I say into the Google Assistant always elicit a verbal response. For example, if I say, “open prime video,” it verbally responds, “Got it. Launching Prime Video on the family room tv.” I don’t want it to say anything out loud.

I have searched through all settings in Google TV and in my Google account.

It sounds stupid, but the only way around this annoyance was to create routines in the Home app with TWO commands.

In the Home app, I created a routine called Turn on the Red Velvet (a light) and also add a second variable that said "set red velvet to 100%". With that second command, it just turns on the light without talking.

It's a PITA to do this for so man of the commands I use, but right now it seems to be the only way to get it to just do it silently.

Not tried myself (yet) but would a routine with a custom response work?

"Turn on lamp"

Then a custom response with just blank text or hit the space bar a few times.

Not home to test this.

It at least makes sense that if you issue a command verbally it will respond the same way.

But it's maddening that the app store search responds verbally even when I search with the keyboard.
