How do I customize the Google TV (Chromecast 2020) menu?

by Uranium_Donut_

Coming from a regular android TV, the UI is.... a difference.

Despite having uninstalled "Disney+" and "Joyn", and having disabled them in "customization options" I STILL get a full screen AD for all of these. None of my Plex, Arte and other stuff shows up in the "Reccomendations System"

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I recently installed the ATV launcher and ADB disabled the original one so that I could get a cleaner look. Seems the way to go if you don't want random ads/recommendations.

I get zero ads and the "For You" tab doesn't show up at all. My trick? I'm located in a small country in Latin America

None of my Plex, Arte and other stuff shows up

I was warned about this when I thought about getting one, ended up sticking with regular android TV for now

There is a menu option in settings to go to the classic style launcher. Also if you scroll to the bottom you can disable recommendations on a per app basis. I have noticed that even though I’ve turned some apps off they still tend to give some suggestions from time to time.

Honestly I like the new interface even with the app recommendations on apps I don’t have. It keeps me up to date on what’s popular or trending which is often different than what’s offered within the apps I use etc.

Just search up what I saw in the app of my choice.

You don't. Either you use Plex and kodi and don't want the "ads" or you are subbed to multiple providers and LOVE that you don't have to fuck around in each app to find something.

I just had the chromecast with android tv. Vompared to my Mi Box S, it is different and I eon't have the different costumisation features. I like the mi box S better. I can customise:

  • My preference apps in the top of the homescreen
  • My continue watching apps in the order I choose

I have an app button on the remote control that allows me to switch between apps without having to go by the home screen like on the chromecast.

Over all, i find the user experience much better on the Mi box S I think google did a lousy job on the UI for this product

Sorry, you're not alone.

It's either a bug or an intentional choice by Google to push ads for services you aren't subscribed to.

Good luck getting Google to confirm the issue or respond in any way.
