Screensaver Doesn't Activate on Philips 50PUS7304/12 TV

by BruceWallace1314

Hello

I am hoping someone can help with a problem that has been bugging me for months. I have to manually activate the screensaver setting on my Philips TV (Android 9.0 - most recent security patch from October 2020) every day in order for the screensaver to work as it should. I have:

  • Factory reset the TV a few times to see if that resolves the issue (it doesn't);
  • Contacted Philips to see if they could help (they were pretty hopeless); and
  • Scoured the internet (including Reddit) for a fix (I can't see any).

I would be very grateful for any advice anyone has on how to resolve the issue. Otherwise the TV works well. It certainly isn't as fast/smooth as a Nvidia Shield TV but otherwise it does the job.

Many thanks!

Have you tried adjusting the energy saving settings. Perhaps it's on Eco which isn't letting the saver start?

Did it ever work?

Not sure if it's limited to the Ambilight range but my previous ambilight android TV wouldn't even activate the screen saver settings. I think there was a post here of someone who forced the setting on and it messed up the TV. There was maybe even a theory they disabled it on that set to improve it's energy rating.

I'm on my second Ambilight TV and this one does work with the screen saver. Although now that I think about it I have had to turn it on manually a few times recently but I had been playing with the settings a bunch so thought I had turned it off.

I did find that I had to turn it off after it kept kicking in during the built in iPlayer app though. So maybe it has been disabled via an update.

Try to disable Ambilight next time you switch off the TV. (make sure screensaver is ON). Does it immediately switch off the screensaver when you put your TV back on?

Btw. Most Philips TVs also reset background process settings to default when you switch off & on the TV.
