Xiaomi Mi Box S or HiMedia Streaming-Box S500

by Ravn73

Hi, i got a Firestick and it's about to break. And i thought about this time buying a AndroidTV Box. But i have to buy it over a catalog website here in germany, financial reasons. And because i dont have money for a nvidea shield or formuler. So i saw these two on the catalog site: Xiaomi Mi Box S and the HiMedia Streaming-Box S500. But i dont know which one is better. I need your knowledge so that i can get one.

I dont want to flash it or else. I just want to install apps like kodi and other tv stuff. If i can play on it, i dont know if i would use it.

I'm using a Mi Box and unless you're going to be using it for anything particularly strenuous (gaming for instance) I can recommend.

My one issue with it is that using Plex, it does struggle streaming over 720. That works fine for me (and could just as easily be a network issue) but given that the Mi Box doesn't have an ethernet port, it's something to bear in mind should you be wanting to use it for stuff like 4k content

You are better off telling us what Apps you want to use. Eg. Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+ etc.

I dont have 4k. I'm just thinking "What if i get a 4k TV next year?". I dont think so. And i'm just watching in FullHD.

Like i said it has to come from this site:

I would say till 120€, but it has to come from there. Because i can get there installment payment.

I could try and get the Strong SRT 202EMATIC or Strong SRT2023.

Can you connect a external 12tb hdd to mi box s and stream via kodi?

Go for Mi Box

My experiences with himedia, as a premium box, was it had too many problems for too long for something with a premium price tag. It was the q10 pro. I ended up buying a cheaper android box to replace it. While there were happy people, there were plenty of unhappy owners as well with support. But that's my limited experience so take this as you will.

I would say, don't buy the HiMedia. It is not certified for 4K Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and it's using a HiSilicon SoC with is built by Huawei. Anything Huawei is banned from using Android, even the SoC. It means it still works fine of course, but it will never receive any update (Android 10 or 11).

So go for the Mi Box S, it's certified for both Prime and Netflix, and it's using an older Amlogic SoC but those aren't banned.

- I think in Germany you also and the Ematic / Strong SRT 202. It's more or less the same specs as a Mi Box S but with more ports. https://www.strong.tv/de/products/ip-tv-receivers/srt202ematic

- Or the new Chromecast, which costs 70€. Not sure what's your budget.
