by kurosaki1990

Hi, i'm trying to make a setup and trying to figure out if the NVIDIA shield TV Pro is enough to play this movie

2160p
UHD
BluRay
TrueHD 7.1
HDR

Or do i need specific TV or any 4K TV can play TrueHD sound without any problem and same with app which app is the best?

Trying to buy everything to make future proof 4K environment.

The shield will be able to play this kind of files without any issue. Event the Tube should be able to play them (but I would still recommend the Pro since the Tube can become buggy when playing that kind of files in my experience).
As for the TV you need a TV that supports HDR, else you will get awful colors. But nowadays I think almos any TV over 300 will support at least HDR10.
For the sound you TV will play them just fine you will just not have the benefit of the 7.1 sound (meaning 7 speakers around your couch).

Top of the tree Premium 4K HDR Dolby Vision displays:

1)) 2020 Panasonic HZ2000 OLED, also does HDR10+ The brightest OLED money can buy due to special mods Panasonic do to cool the OLED panel. Otherwise the HZ1500/1000 models.

  1. 2019 Sony A9G, the Master Series, calibrated from the factory. Otherwise the 2020 Sony A8H, both have better Picture Processing than the....

  2. 2020 LG CX OLED, the great all rounder, has HDMI 2.1 if you are a next gen 4K@120Hz gamer.

As for audio if you do not want to shell out for a full blown AVR with Ceiling / Height Atmos speakers...

The 2020 Sony HT-G700 3.1ch Dolby Atmos DTS:X Soundbar would do nicely as it handles all sorts of HD audio, has eARC and DolbyVision video passthru.

If you want to be future proof you should get a OLED TV that supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. If budget is a constriction then a QLED TV with support for both profiles. As for True HD audio, most TVs will downmix it to stereo since they come (generally) with stereo speakers. In case you don’t want a downmix then you would need to get a receptor with support for true HD, and once again for future proof support Dolby Atmos, and speakers. Or a good soundbar with satellite speakers and support for trueHD and Atmos

Yes. Nvidia Shield is more than sufficient to play all the formats you mentioned. I even play full 4k UHD 10bit HDR TrueHD 80GB per movie video file stored on my USB 3.0 external storage connected to the Shield using the KODI app. No lag or stutter or any kind of frame drop. Using the first-gen shield since 2017.
