How much RAM do I need?

by RENoMafex

Hi, I'm looking to buy my first tv with Android. So I'm interested in the "sharp 65bl5ea". When I looked up the specs and compared it to some other android TVs i noticed that this Sharp only has 1.5gb ram, it seems to be the least ram you can find on an android tv. Now I wonder if that is even enough to ensure fast operation of the tv?

Ignore the smart specs of any TV,, and buy a separate STB. TVs last for a decade. Software deosnt.

Ram is not your problem. CPU is. Also software optimisation. That sharp will have so many bugs that you will end up using android TV box.

TCL budget android TVs are decent. C715, c815, ep66, ep68 decent models for money

Even though android memory management is insanely good, I still wouldn't go less than 2 GB. Anything less and you're going to run into major lag. I have two Mi Box's and one Shield Pro and the Mi Box's switching apps it's noticeably slower compared to the shield pro. Yes the processor has something to do with it but that extra gigabyte of ram is doing the most.

You really want 2GHz Minimum RAM on any Android TV device you use everyday.

Also make sure the model you intend to buy is running at least Android v8.0 Oreo or greater.

No Android tv apart from Sony xh95 is fast. There are various degrees of slow. That Sharp is alright imo. Ram is a bit on the low side but real problem is storage. Pro tip: use ssd via USB port.

I have 55bl2ea and software was terrible initially. But two updates fixed most of the issues with software.

I would avoid it tho, picture quality is bad. Buy TCL C715 instead.

My 4 year old LeEco has 3GB ram but my new Hisense H8G only has 2GB, they need 3GB to keep the interface snappy at all times but 2GB is enough to scrape by. I wouldn't buy an Android TV with less than 2.
