Is thé Xiaomi Mi S a good fit for me ?

by iloveit012

Hi My goal is to watch IPTV and Netflix on my TV and movies from a USB stick. This box is at 49€ right now in my country so its in my budget but i'm a bit overwhelmed by all the different models available (x96, fire stick etc..). Can someone point me in the right direction please ? Thanks

Its a great buy if you cant get the new Google TV with Chromecast device.

What country are you in?

Although it's not a bad device, it's using an aging SoC (S905X), so I recommend to get a device with a not too old one, here's my recommendation:

- Chromecast with Google TV (more info at tv.google )

- Dynalink TV Box (More info at dynalink.life )

- Formuler GTV (Prime Video only. Gigabit ethernet. More info at formuler.tv/gtv )

- Mecool KM6 Classic Edition (Prime Video only. 10/100 ethernet. AV1 hardware decoding. 2GB of RAM. More info at mecoolonline.com )

- Mecool KM6 Deluxe Edition (Prime Video only. Gigabit ethernet. WiFi 6. AV1 hardware decoding. 4GB of RAM. More info at mecoolonline.com )

- Minix Neo T5 (No Netflix/Prime Video. Gigabit ethernet. Remote control doesn't have a microphone. More info at minix.com.hk/products/neo-t5 )

- Nokia Streaming Box 8000 (Only for Europe. More info at nokia.com/shop/streaming-devices/nokia-streaming-box-8000

- Nvidia Shield TV (The most expensive but powerful. More info at shield.nvidia.com )

- Xiaomi Mi TV Stick (up to 1080p only. More info at mi.com/global/mi-tv-stick )

I have 2, they are great, i definitely would recommend them for your use... But they are also kinda old, the chromecast with google tv should not be all that expensive and have better hardware and will be supported for far longer.

I'm thinking of upgrading both for example

Small tiny warning:

I (and quite a few other folks) have expoerienced some stuttering/freezing/lagging/audio desync with their mi boxes (no matter if that was YT/Netflix or movie via pendrive). Noone came up with proper solution for it so I had to return box to the shop

1)) If on a tight budget - get something with an already built in USB2 or USB3 port - not some device that you have to add yet another relatively expensive dongle/adapter too, which can then cause a bunch of other problems.

  1. Android TV v9.0 Pie is reasonably snappy on the Mi Boxes for the price paid.

  2. You need a legit Android TV certified - AND - Netflix approved device to stream 1080p / 4K Netflix.

  3. Avoid 1GB RAM Android TV devices, they are too slow and underpowered.

  4. For chipset power and capabilities (most powerful on left) ...

Nvidia Tegra X1+ > S905X3/S905D3 > S905X2/S905Y2 > S905X > S805X

Not all Android TV devices have Netflix Approval. Be careful with choices:

The legit ATV - Netflix Approved - 2GB RAM Engel EN1015K (Jetstream 4K Ultra in USA) has the same chipset as Mi Box - but with better connectivity and expandability:
